Auto Accidents

Auto Accidents

Car accidents happen every day. Some can’t be avoided, while others should have been avoided.  Unfortunately, a serious auto wreck may not just damage your car.  A serious car wreck can result in serious injuries or even a wrongful death. While such tragic consequences can be devastating, it is important to quickly identify the car accident lawyer that can take much of the burden off you and your family by handling the difficult details during your time of troubles.

If you have been involved in an auto accident, there are several things that you should do:

Call For Help – The Police need to be alerted immediately, and medical professionals need to be summoned if there is a chance anyone is injured. The initial shock of the accident can mask serious injuries, so be vigilant for any signs of that anyone is injured, including yourself.

Collect Information – You need to obtain all vehicle and contact information from all drivers and passengers in the other vehicles involved in the automobile accident.

Do Not Make Any Statements about which driver was to blame – An car accident can leave you shaken and confused, in a state of shock. Often, this results in jumbled and inaccurate statements regarding fault.  Admitting you are at fault can hurt your insurance claim, and may be totally incorrect.

Find Witnesses – If there is anybody that witnessed the car accident, get their contact information. A witness testimony of your auto accident could be very helpful in determining what really happened.

Contact an Auto Accident Lawyer - An experienced car accident lawyer will be invaluable in assisting you when filing your auto accident claim.

Often, people begin the process after  their auto accident by trying to handle insurance adjusters themselves, fearing a car accident lawyer may be too expensive or might make them look bad. This is almost never a good idea, and usually ends up costing accident victims time and money.

There are many confusing rules and regulations involved with filing an auto accident claim. You may have to review past medical records or file your claim in a certain amount of time. The experienced auto accident lawyers at The Dodd Law Firm know how to navigate through all the red tape, and most importantly they know how to deal with insurance adjusters.

Insurance Adjusters

After an auto accident, it is the job of the insurance company to investigate the auto accident and determine how much compensation you should be paid. The insurance adjuster will talk to you about the auto accident and what damage resulted from the auto accident.

Of course, the job of the insurance adjuster is to save the insurance company as much money as possible. This means they will attempt to have you admit fault, accept a small amount of compensation, or avoid hiring a lawyer. Above all, this means they are working for the insurance company, not YOU!

An insurance adjuster may act as though they want the best for you, but they don’t. Their job is to keep costs down, primarily by paying you less than you may be owed. The best way to deal with insurance adjusters is to hire an experienced auto accident lawyer and let that lawyer handle the insurance adjusters directly.

When meeting with an insurance adjuster, you should always have an experienced car accident lawyer present. This will cut through much of the red tape associated with auto accident claims, and your attorney can give you valuable advice while responding to the insurance adjuster, as well as act as a witness to the conversation.

An auto accident can be a very serious situation. It can affect you and your loved ones for months or even years to come. Insurance adjusters often attempt to make your losses seem as small as possible, and this is unfair to you. The law says you deserve to be wholly compensated for your losses after an auto accident.
